I'm Hannah, and I'm a writer
Welcome to my ePortfolio! I graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in English and a minor in writing. There's a lot of reasons why I write, but mainly I do it because it makes me happy. It's who I am. This site is also a part of me: who I am, and who I want to be. In it, you'll find my three experiments, and the one that I chose to fully realize into my final project.

My origin material is an essay I wrote for an English class I took freshman year of undergrad , one of those classes that every freshman who's not an Engineering major has to take. The prompt was the following: write a pop-cultural about why something makes a difference. Pretty confusing and broad, right? Well, I decided to write about the Showtime television show
Shameless, and how its ability to portray characters with mental illness without sensationalizing them has the potential to change lives. I got a B- on it, and I was discouraged. So, now 2 years later, I finally have the chance to revisit it, and change it to make it the piece that I know it can be.

My final project is a photo essay that makes the viewer really think and consider the repercussions of inaccurate portrayals of mental illness in the media, and I think a lot of viewers are going to be surprised by what I reveal about their favorite movies and TV shows. This project is something I'm really proud of, and I think my English 125 professor would be proud of me, too.

Enjoy!
